Harristown Primary School has a proud tradition of 100 years of offering the best possible educational opportunities for our students. Our school has recently undertaken a focussed re-assessment of Curriculum programs to better align with the introduction of a National Curriculum in the future. Our intent is to provide our students with up-to-date and child-centred learning which prepares them for a future career pathway in the 21st Century.
Our co-educational school offers a number of opportunities for students to reach their full potential. These include:-
A commitment to ensure all students have numeracy and literacy skills that will allow them to participate in our society
Highly professional teachers with a commitment to quality learning
An instrumental Music Program that offers students a choice of brass, woodwind, strings or percussion instruments
Totally integrated curriculum designed to engage learners in real life experiences
Sporting opportunities to challenge outstanding athletes, with many students representing Darling Downs in various sports
Specialist Intervention Programs that assist students needing support or extension with their learning
Lunch time options program including Computers, Games Room and Library
Opportunities to extend skills in Art, Music and Physical Education, and
A strong commitment to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for our students.
Establishment of “the Hive” as a student support centre
Promotion of HAVE (Harristown Attitude, Values and Expectations) social skilling program to all year levels
School focus on providing additional teacher aide support to students in classes (and in the playground)
Strong ICT focus with the provision of 2 purpose built Computer hubs with wireless access throughout the school
Recent construction of additional facilities (Resource Centre and Multi-Purpose Hall) to enhance educational learning opportunities
Swimming Pool on school site for fostering swimming skills and water confidence
School Programs developed to cater for needs of targeted groups of students to promote their engagement in learning
Shine and Strength programs offered to year 7 students each year
After School Sports program offered each Wednesday and Thursday afternoons
Strong relationship established with external support organisations to assist student engagement in education
Chaplaincy program which is offered 3 days per week, operating Breakfast Club on these rostered days
Access to Kids Hope Mentors to provide support to individual students
